A $21,000 Identity Crisis: The 64-HP Suzuki Jimny That Thinks It’s a Chevy K5 Blazer

    Chevy K5 Blazer

The Suzuki Jimny has cemented its status as a premier canvas for automotive customization, particularly for enthusiasts looking to replicate the aesthetic of iconic vintage 4×4s. Japanese specialist Cal’s Motor has recently unveiled a refreshed version of its popular styling package, designed specifically to accommodate the technical updates of the latest Jimny models. By leveraging the small Suzuki’s naturally boxy proportions, the tuner has successfully created a kit that makes this compact off-roader look like a shrunken American legend.

The styling package, which transforms the modern Suzuki into a tribute to the classic Chevy K5 Blazer, is available in three distinct configurations: the “Beas” for the narrow-body kei-car variant, the “Beas+” for the standard Jimny Sierra, and the “Beas+L” for the longer-wheelbase five-door Nomade model.

The Classic Chevy Aesthetic for the Compact Off-Roader

The original iteration of this Chevy-inspired face-swap debuted in 2024, followed by the introduction of the five-door version in early 2025. However, Suzuki’s mid-cycle updates to the Jimny lineup between late 2025 and early 2026 introduced new technical requirements. To remain compatible with the latest factory specifications, Cal’s Motor had to revise the front-end design to house modern safety hardware.

Despite the 2026 Suzuki Jimny maintaining its familiar exterior appearance, mandatory safety upgrades now include millimeter-wave radar and ultrasonic sensors. The engineering challenge for Cal’s Motor was to integrate these components into the chrome-heavy front fascia without disrupting the retro styling. The result is a seamless blend of vintage looks and modern functionality, allowing the customized SUV to retain its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as collision avoidance and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The conversion is defined by its bold chrome grille, heavy-duty bumpers, and signature square chrome-surrounded headlights. For owners seeking a more modern lighting signature, the tuner offers split LED headlights as an optional upgrade. The vintage theme continues with chrome-finished disc wheels and a redesigned rear bumper featuring classic round LED taillights.

    Interior Customization and Technical Specifications

Beyond the exterior sheet metal, Cal’s Motor offers a variety of interior enhancements to complete the retro transformation. Customers can specify custom leather seat covers, branded floor mats, and high-end electronics, including an Alpine infotainment system and a digital rearview mirror equipped with a back-up camera. Additional audio upgrades are also available for those wanting to modernize the cabin experience further.

Under the hood, the Jimny remains mechanically stock. The narrow-body “Beas” variant is powered by the regulated 658 cc turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 64 hp (47 kW). Meanwhile, the “Beas+” and “Beas+L” models utilize the larger 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, which delivers 101 hp (75 kW). Both engine options are paired with Suzuki’s reliable part-time 4WD system, with buyers choosing between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.

Pricing and Availability in the Japanese Market

Cal’s Motor is currently accepting orders for these updated builds in Japan. The entry-level “Beas” (kei-spec) starts at approximately ¥3,380,000 ($21,100), while the Jimny Sierra-based “Beas+” begins at ¥3,580,000 ($22,300). For enthusiasts who already own a Jimny, the tuner also offers the components as individual kits, allowing for a phased or DIY transformation of their existing vehicle.

By successfully navigating the integration of modern radar technology into a classic design, Cal’s Motor has ensured that the Suzuki Jimny remains one of the most versatile and customizable off-roaders on the market. These updates provide a unique path for owners to enjoy 1970s American styling without sacrificing the safety and reliability of a brand-new vehicle.

    Final Thoughts
The updated Beas series by Cal’s Motor demonstrates how the aftermarket industry can adapt to increasing vehicle regulations. By integrating mandatory safety sensors into a classic Chevy-inspired design, they have preserved the retro appeal of the Suzuki Jimny while keeping it technologically current. Whether in the compact kei-car form or the extended five-door version, these kits offer a distinctive alternative for those who want their modern off-roader to stand out with a vintage American flair.
